World Creation Challenge 4

My fourth World Creation Challenge for run by and

The idea is to choose a genre you wouldn't usually touch with a bargepole and create the basis for a story using monthly challenge memes. I have always wanted to do my own take on the Superhero genre, but until now have been a bit too scared to have a go (it is a really challenging one for a lot of reasons) but I decided that for this challenge that's what it had to be! 

So this one was about the other people in your main character's life. I had a LOT of fun making up all of the other characters in her story. I really like to research my name's and their meanings and associations, which is why this one took me quite a while. All of their names have to say something about them really. I also wanted to keep a fair few things in her story making obscure references to comics that inspire the story, so a lot of the characters share similar first, last or nicknames to classic comic characters. 
I'm not sure about the hacker's codenames yet, I might change them, but only if I can think of something better. At the moment the best idea I have is theming them on wild animals, but I worry that this will be too close to something I have planned for my story, Aftertaste.

A quick rundown on the characters:

Bruce McCraith: Cas, Alric and Bri's father. I think he's the more easy-going of their parents and I like to imagine him as a large, greying moustached fellow with a voice like Brian Blessed xD (okay, maybe not THAT booming, but you get the idea). He runs an antique business and I get the feeling he is how Cas acquired her vintage comic book collection. He's very supportive of his kids and tends to be the only one who can soften Rhona when she puts her foot down about something.

Rhona McCraith: Cas, Alric and Bri's mother. She might seem a bit straight laced, cold and slightly judgy but she's a loving wife and mother. She nags a lot, nitpicks, and moans but she loves her family and only wants the best for them (even if sometimes she doesn't know what the best thing is). She's always been very ambitious and dedicated to her work, which may end up being a bit awkward for Cas once Synergy starts making the news...

Brianne McCraith: Cassia's younger sister. She's a little more girly and delicate than her sister but way more laid back. She can be a bit too much of a party animal and just a teeny bit eccentric. She's training as a seamstress and volunteers in her local theatre making costume. She'll end up having designed the most famous superhero outfit of her time! Despite them being very different, Cassia and Brianne are very close. 

Alric McCraith: Cassia and Brianne's older brother. Al is a bit of a joker and competitive to boot, which meant a lot of rows when he and his sister's were kids. However, the three get along just fine now they're adults, despite a fair bit of banter. He has a very firm sense of what he thinks is right, and can be extremely stubborn, but it does make him pretty good at his job. He's also very protective of his family, even when they don't particularly want him to be.

Robyn Cast: Cassia's childhood best friend. Robyn is ambitious, opinionated and a bit of a loud mouth, not to mention being a total pessimist (not awfully helped by her work). However, she certainly has a soft side and believes in protecting her own. Her life goal is to uncover the hidden hierarchy of the cities and expose those who pull the strings. She will happily put herself in danger for the sake of information. Robyn and Cassia don't see each other and perhaps aren't as close as they used to be due to work, but still manage to catch up as often as they can (usually when Cas needs to talk Robyn out of doing something stupid)

Mitchell Burton: One of the Hackers Cas works with as Synergy and close friend of Fox. Bats is a straight up, honest kind of guy who isn't fazed by anything, and so he's the first to accept and welcome Cassia into the group. The two become pretty good friends and due to all the secrets she has to keep from people in her everyday like, he's the only person Cassia can really confide in. He's also a very similar level of geek, so the two get on like a house on fire. He does however, have a habit of pointing out things that nobody wants to know, like 'we are in big. Frickin. Trouble.'

Veronica Starke: One of the hackers in Fox's team. Cat is the wild one for a good reason, she's boisterous, talkative and overly friendly to the point of being a bit...much when you first meet her. She has good intentions though, and genuinely wants to help people. She tends to feel responsible for keeping up group morale and so tends to bottle her own problems as a result. She and Cas starts to get on well enough after a brief uncertainty, partly due to working closely together. Cat has the best actual fighting experience in the team, and so tags along on field missions as backup.

Oliver Bell: The leader of the Hackers. Fox is cocky, sarcastic, sly and even a bit too used to his authority. He knows he's in charge and often has to be brought down a peg when he's barking orders (usually by Bats) but he really does have everybody's best interests at heart, even if he won't always admit it. He has a very strong sense of honour, and can be stubborn as a mule. He's also very hard to get close to. Cas finds him extremely intimidating, but doesn't quite know what to make of him yet.
I've put him in the middle because I'm not 100% Sure of the nature of their relationship yet, though I get the feeling there's something there.
